We’re receiving lots of enquiries about what COVID-19 means for our waterways.
We’ve answered the most commonly asked questions for you below.
Q Am I still able to go boating?
From Saturday 2 May, you are able to leave your home for some recreational activities, including boating, jet skiing and fishing.
Please make sure you:
– Stay within 50km of your home
– Practice social distancing
– Are only joined by people who usually live with you, or one other person.

Q What boat ramps are still open?
At this stage, all boat ramps remain open. Please adhere to the social distancing rules while at boat ramps.
Q Can I still go to The Spit?
As of midnight on Tuesday 27 April, the City of Gold Coast reopened The Spit beach and beachside car parks will progressively open.
In addition, Doug Jennings Park is open again.
While enjoying the beautiful Spit, please continue to adhere to the social distancing directions.
Q Do I still have to move my boat to adhere to the anchoring & mooring rules?
At present, it’s important that vessel masters observe and comply fully with all obligations, requirements and rules with Gold Coast waterways.
This means vessel masters are still required to comply with all marine safety and transport related laws for our waterways, which includes anchoring and living onboard rules for Gold Coast waters. For example, a vessel must not remain anchored in Marine Stadium for more than 7 consecutive days.
All obligations, requirements and rules remain in effect, until there’s a direction that prohibits all vessel movement from the Chief Health Officer.
GCWA will continue to monitor information from the Chief Health Officer in relation to COVID-19 and will provide updates.
