The full potential of one of Queensland’s most stunning coastal parklands is set to be unlocked with the reveal of a detailed precinct plan for The Top of The Spit, Main Beach. The intent for this regionally significant parkland has been established by The Spit Master Plan (2019).
The precinct plan promises more vibrancy in the public space and enhanced connectivity between the areas of Marine Stadium, Doug Jennings Park, and Moondarewa Spit.
The project is funded by Queensland Government and is being delivered by the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA).
Several months of concept planning and stakeholder engagement have shaped the precinct plan, which focusses on the rich possibilities that the top of The Spit holds for recreation, culture, and social engagement. This work has highlighted the importance of environmentally sensitive, inclusive, and visually appealing design solutions.
GCWA will continue to engage with the public, community groups, and the events industry to ensure the plan reflects the community’s vision for The Spit.
The plan is available to review and open for public comment until Sunday 19 November 2023.To view The Top of The Spit precinct plan, visit https://gcwa.qld.gov.au/2023/02/15/top-of-the-spit-precinct/.
