Discover The Spit Stories – Online and On the Ground

Explore the Stories. Discover the Place. Feel the Connection.

A new digital storytelling platform, The Spit Stories, has officially launched, offering visitors and locals a fresh way to explore the history, community and environment of The Spit. Developed as part of The Spit Master Plan, the platform pairs on-site interpretive signage with online stories to help people connect more deeply with this iconic Gold Coast destination

Created in collaboration with the Community Reference Panel and a specialist interpretive writer, the stories reflect four key themes — Community, Environment and Ecology, Leisure and Trading, and Maritime. As interpretive signage is installed across each precinct, the corresponding stories will be released online — creating a dynamic and evolving story library that you can explore from anywhere.

The project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Spit Works Program.

We extend our sincere thanks to the passionate community of The Spit and everyone who generously shared their insights, time and stories to help bring this project to life.

Visitors can now explore The Spit Stories from the sand, the pathways, or anywhere online.

Who’s Who in the Blue

Who’s Who in the Blue explains who is responsible for managing, protecting and
regulating Queensland’s waterways, particularly on the Gold Coast.

It clarifies agency roles across safety, environmental protection, pollution response,
compliance and infrastructure, helping avoid confusion and duplication.

Overall, it’s a quick reference guide that supports coordination, accountability and
effective waterway stewardship.

The Gold Coast Waterways Authority acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional custodians, the Yugambeh peoples of South East Queensland, including the Kombumerri, Mununjali, Wangerriburra, Bullongin and other clans, and their Elders past, present and emerging.
