The Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) continues to deliver targeted compliance action across the Broadwater and surrounding waterways, with officers working every day to improve safety, access and amenity for the community.
Our compliance officers undertake regular patrols, conduct compliance checks and take enforcement action where required to address abandoned vessels, unlawful anchoring, hazards and other behaviour that can impact the safe use and enjoyment of public waterways.
All compliance activity is undertaken in line with the legislation and regulatory powers that apply to Gold Coast waterways. Like any enforcement agency, GCWA must act within the law, follow due process and apply the appropriate powers available in each circumstance.
Recent Outcomes
Recent operational activity has delivered strong results, including:
- 19 abandoned vessels removed
- 31 anchoring removal notices issued
- 8 unlawfully anchored watercraft removed
- Daily patrols and hotspot monitoring
- Ongoing responses to reported hazards and non-compliance matters
These actions help reduce risks, improve access, protect amenity and maintain confidence in the management of our waterways.
More Than Enforcement
Keeping waterways safe requires a consistent and visible presence on the water. It also includes education, engagement and early intervention to help waterway users understand their responsibilities and comply with the rules that exist to protect shared waterways.
Where voluntary compliance is not achieved, enforcement action may be taken using the powers available under legislation.
Ongoing Focus
As one of Australia’s busiest recreational waterway networks, the Gold Coast requires active and ongoing management. GCWA remains focused on delivering practical, lawful and consistent compliance outcomes that protect public safety and support fair access for all users.
