Agencies work together in response to Broadwater boat incidents
Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) crews have worked alongside Maritime Safety Queensland and Water Police in response to three boat incidents over the past 24 hours.
The response highlights the importance of agencies working together to help keep the Gold Coast’s waterways safe and accessible.
Incident updates
- Coombabah Creek, near Jabiru Island: The incident remains ongoing, with GCWA crews monitoring the scene.
- Northern end of Wave Break Island: GCWA crews placed a yellow safety buoy near the houseboat involved and confirmed there was no immediate oil pollution threat.
- Crab Island: GCWA crews placed a safety buoy near a sunken yacht and confirmed there was no immediate pollution risk.
Waterway users are asked to keep clear of the affected vessels and safety buoys.
Working together for our waterways
The Gold Coast’s waterways support local businesses, attract visitors and are part of everyday life for many residents.
Keeping them safe and accessible takes ongoing work across agencies. While GCWA, Maritime Safety Queensland and Water Police have different responsibilities, they look after the same waterways and serve the same community.
Thank you to all crews and officers involved in the response.
Plan ahead before heading out
If poor weather continues, avoid heading out unless necessary. Use the time to check your boat, trailer and lifejackets, and always check the latest weather warnings before heading out.
