As part of The Spit Master Plan implementation, we’ll be upgrading the boat ramps, existing pontoon and adding a floating walkway. Parking, pathways, landscaping and public amenities will also be improved.

Final stages of work include:

  • Landscaping
  • Completion of the shade shelter and amenities block
  • Minor profiling and cleaning up around the site
  • Construction of the beach access stairs
  • Completion of the sewer pump station

IMPACTS

  • Vehicles with flashing lights and reversing beepers for safety
  • Work will involve the use of piling rigs, excavators, trucks, and concrete trucks
  • Piling can result in increased level of noise and vibration
  • Truck movements to deliver equipment and materials to and from site
  • Limited carparking in the area – 20 x car-trailer unit (CTU) parks, 10 x regular car park and1 x people with disabilities (PWD) car park
  • Limited boat ramp usage
  • The main toilet block will be closed and temporary toilets will be available.

Changes to boat ramp usage
The southern boat ramp is temporarily closed due to ongoing electrical work on the access road that leads to the ramp for vehicle entry. It is anticipated to reopen mid-September 2024.

The northern boat ramp and pontoon will be closed from April 2024 till mid October 2024.

During construction, please use alternative boat ramps. These include Proud Park, Broadwater Parklands, Harley Park and Loders Creek. Visit the City of Gold Coast’s boating facility guide at https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Things-to-do/Boating-fishing-jet-skiing

We appreciate your patience while these important works are being carried out.

BENEFITS OF THE UPGRADE

  • Improved vessel launching areas that provide safe and efficient arrangement for launching and retrieving vessels
  • Increase in the number of boat ramp lanes to cater for more traffic movements, especially during peak periods
  • Additional parking bays for cars and cars with boat trailers
  • New public amenities, shade shelter, pathways, landscaping, and park embellishments
  • Dedicated area for community clubs to meet and safely store their equipment.

The improvement works will encompass multiple elements, and once complete, the Park will offer a total of 6 boat ramp lanes, an upgraded pontoon, a new floating walkway on the northern boat ramp, 160 trailer parks, 144 car parks, 6 car parks for people with disabilities, line marking, pathways, landscaping, public toilets, and a shade shelter

IMPACTS DURING CONSTRUCTION PERIOD

  • During construction, the number of car parks and boat ramps will be heavily reduced to enable the improvements to be undertaken
  • Changed traffic conditions
  • Some noise will be generated by construction works
  • Staged construction will be utilised to retain limited waterways access impacts on users of the facility and neighbouring properties.
