Improvements Project

The Gold Coast Waterways Authority is enhancing access to the Broadwater and the Seaway for recreational and commercial vessels, community organisations. As part of The Spit Master Plan implementation, we’ll be upgrading the boat ramps, existing pontoon and adding a floating walkway. Parking, pathways, landscaping and public amenities will also be improved.

This project is proudly funded with the support of the Queensland Government’s Spit Works Program in association with City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Waterways Authority.

WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?

Muriel Henchman improvement works are in the final stages of construction.

Final stages of work include:

  • Landscaping
  • Completion of the shade shelter and amenities block
  • Minor profiling and cleaning up around the site
  • Completion of the sewer pump station

We appreciate your patience while these final works are being carried out.

BENEFITS OF THE UPGRADE

  • Improved vessel launching areas that provide safe and efficient arrangement for launching and retrieving vessels
  • Increase in the number of boat ramp lanes to cater for more traffic movements, especially during peak periods
  • Additional parking bays for cars and cars with boat trailers
  • New public amenities, shade shelter, pathways, landscaping, and park embellishments
  • Dedicated area for community clubs to meet and safely store their equipment.

The improvement works will encompass multiple elements, and once complete, the Park will offer a total of 6 boat ramp lanes, an upgraded pontoon, a new floating walkway on the northern boat ramp, 160 trailer parks, 144 car parks, 6 car parks for people with disabilities, line marking, pathways, landscaping, public toilets, and a shade shelter
