Keeping the Gold Coast waterways accessible and safer – Compliance Update
GCWA has continued its regular monitoring and compliance activities across the Gold Coast waterways throughout the past month, with a focus on the Western Channel and the area between Runaway Bay and Paradise Point.
At the start of the reporting period, 358 vessels were being monitored across these locations, with an average of around 80 vessels observed each day.
During the month, GCWA officers:
- Issued 25 Marine Infringement Notices (MINs)
- Issued 6 Notices to Remove
- Removed 1 vessel following compliance action
- Disposed of 20 abandoned vessels
The vast majority of waterway users continue to do the right thing, helping to keep the waterways accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Where issues are identified, GCWA works with waterway users to encourage compliance and takes enforcement action where necessary.
GCWA’s compliance program supports navigational access, protects the waterway environment and helps maintain the amenity of the Gold Coast waterways. Through regular patrols, education and targeted enforcement, the team responds to abandoned vessels, anchoring, mooring and other activities that can affect the fair and sustainable use of shared waterways.
