Gold Coast Waterways Authority is delivering a major maintenance project on 27 large beacons in the Gold Coast Seaway and the Broadwater, to extend the operational lifespan of these assets.
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority is upgrading the boating facility at Oxenford. This project involves installing a new pontoon to the west of the existing boat ramp and expanding the existing boat ramp’s footprint by four metres to accommodate an extra lane.
Major improvement works have commenced this week at a popular boat ramp at The Spit, with local based company Ertech (Queensland) Pty Ltd awarded the contract for construction.
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) is supporting a sustainable future for our waterways by undertaking work that acknowledges our responsibility to mitigate, plan, and respond to climate change impacts.
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority is improving access and connections to the waterways by dredging the Coomera River navigation channel from Sovereign Island to the Gold Coast Marine Industry Precinct at Coomera. Approximately 70,000 cubic metres of sand will be removed from the channel and beneficially reused.
The Spit Master Plan, released in 2019, conveys how future generations will value The Spit for its memorable places that connect the community and visitors with the landscape and marine environment. Wayfinding signage and interpretative stories will help achieve these connections.

The Sand Bypass System (SBS) jetty is a working platform and is closed to the public whenever construction activity, sand pumping operations or maintenance works are underway, or during severe weather events.
For safety reasons, the jetty will remain closed until the end of 2026 while essential maintenance and ongoing sand pumping operations continue. We appreciate your understanding.
